WHAT DOES THE ‘SPIRIT’ OF CHRISTMAS MEAN TO YOU?
I trust that you are enjoying this Christmas time? I bet that you, like me, derive great pleasure from the build up, the gathering of friends, meeting up with all the family, church, parties etc. I myself relish in that special Christmas ‘spirit’ that most people tend to have.
Consider the ‘spirit’ of the major religious festivals and anniversaries that humanity celebrates; whether it’s Christmas, Diwali, Eid-ul-Adha, Hanukkah, or other festivals. Consider the Christmas or Holiday ‘Spirit’…
WHAT IS THAT SPIRIT AND HOW DOES IT MANIFEST?
The ‘spirit’ is nothing more than people remembering and recognising the Law of Connection, which binds us. At Christmas time the law manifests itself in people allowing themselves to be open enough to look for the connection with others. To let themselves be their best and allow positive energy to flow to and from them. Notice how people smile more, are more tolerant, proclaiming verbally or silently, good wishes and good intentions to one another. In doing so, we begin to ‘see’ one another. No gifts or material manipulation is required to do this, we share the same energy with complete strangers, bidding a Merry Christmas to people we may never meet again. In some way, I know that we are seeing the spirit within others and in ourselves, and we begin to act from that noble place.
“We are all in this together…for a while”
At Christmas, just for a short while, we realise that we’re all in this together, that we’re part of something bigger that is more than ourselves. At other times of the year most people are less bothered about others. I’m not saying that it’s right but that’s how it is. Soon after any holidays, festivals, or celebrations, notice how the material, workaday world drags you back to the matrix, to what we might call reality; away from that experience of unified connection, and into NonSelf. At these times, we can continue to share in that spirit with others, and make our energy self-evident, as we continue to do, say, and be the thing that caused the ‘spirit’ in the first place.
Another way of considering your TrueSelf connections if you can’t discern what came or comes from that connection, is the joy that you feel in your TrueSelf place. Those of you who have read ‘The 10-Second Philosophy’ book, know that being in and recognising ones TrueSelf, is reward enough.
Think back to the moments when you’ve been most connected to others, when your awareness is encompassing and when you have knowledge of yourself. When your best mental, physical and emotional powers are at your disposal, you’ll practically be living your best possible life. Each time you have an amazing happening, capture that moment and add it to your storehouse; as each will serve you and increase you.
ANOTHER PART OF ME
To me the ‘Christmas Spirit’ means actively realising our connection with others, through a celebration of Christ’s birth. The ‘spirit’ of other festivals is recognition of and endures because of our connection to one another. Each ‘other’ is just another part of me. What might happen in your life, your community, what might happen in our world if we recognise this as being true? When we truly recognise our sameness, our interdependence, our shared life, we change. When we change, everything changes for us all.
“Right now, at this time, can you think of someone you feel might be lonely? Contact them and let him or her know that they are not alone.”
Remember, the Law of Connection is not just for Christmas, it’s for life. I wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy Happy New Year
